A Utah man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot a New York City synagogue in a series of social media posts as he attempted to cross to Manhattan via the Lincoln Tunnel on Friday night, police and sources say.
Luis Ramirez was taken into custody by a police officer from the New Jersey Port Authority, according to the NYPD and sources.
In one post, Ramirez cited the central synagogue on Lexington Avenue in midtown Manhattan, police said.
Police from the NYPD and Port Authority found Ramirez travelling from out of state to Big Apple and were able to grab him before he reached Manhattan, police said.
The UJA community security initiative flagged the threat and worked with law enforcement to notify synagogues in the city, sources said.
Ramirez, who has no criminal history, is said to be in possession of a firearm when he was stopped early on a road trip in Kansas City. Reported by ABC Newscited police sources.
He had no weapons in his vehicle when he was stopped outside the Lincoln Tunnel on Friday night, sources said.
Police say no charges have been filed as an investigation is ongoing.
Ramirez is being held at Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearney, sources said.
He is scheduled to be arrested on Saturday.
