On HBO's “real-time” broadcast on Friday, host Bill Maher said he believes Vice President JD Vance is right in criticism of European speech law during his recent speech.
Maher said, “JD Vance… I gave a speech in Munich last week. A lot of people were shocked by it. I thought half of it was pretty shocking because it was just in Germany that they had a party that was very Nazi-friendly to vote.”
He continued. “But the first part of the speech was about freedom of speech and I didn't think he was that wrong, especially since I just saw it.60 minutes'Report… about how they deal with freedom of speech in Germany. oh. This is not just a country where the pendulum doesn't land in the middle. Apparently, Germany is so afraid that it looks like their Nazi past, they literally have cell phones and computers just to knock on people's doors and humiliate people online. They brought up this example of “Pimel.” It means “cook” in German. Can't you call people penis? I'll go to prison 10 times a week. ”
Later, later Washington Post columnist and CNN host Fareed Zakaria said that Vance was free speech and correct, but that the premise that “this is the biggest danger facing Europe today” was not Russia or China, and that Maher agreed and stated that Russia had no freedom of speech, which made him trouble with Vance's speech.
