On Wednesday's trip to Eagle Pass, Texas, Vice President JD Vance said President Donald Trump hopes to build an entire wall on the southern border by the end of his term.

Vance, alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegses and National Intelligence Director Tarsi Gabbard, worked on the Trump administration's ongoing efforts to curb the flow of illegal immigration and fentanyl to the United States.
“I think the president's hope is to build an entire boundary wall by the end of the conditions,” Vance said.
“And of course, it's a physical structure, the boundary wall itself, but I've heard it today. There are so many great technical tools. For example, a camera, not a person, but a very large number of great artificial intelligence-enabled technologies that allow cameras to pick up people two miles away trying to cross the southern border,” he continued.
“We use artificial intelligence to make us better with our border enforcement work, but we need to make sure that technology is deployed across the southern border of America. We do that as broad as possible, because that's how we protect the safety of our American people.”
President Trump's strong stance on border security has resulted in a sharp decline in illegal immigration compared to former President Joe Biden's relaxed policies surrounding asylum seekers and illegal immigration.
“Border security is national security,” Heggs said before his trip to the border. “We're sending those people home, but we don't put more in. You're watching it now.”
Vance, Gabbard and Hegseth also attended a border guard roundtable with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to discuss President Trump's “ongoing hometown and border security operations.”
“Texas serves as a model for border security,” Abbott said. “Now, along with our White House partners, government law enforcement at all levels can work together to protect our southern borders and end the unprecedented border crisis created by the Biden administration.”
“As President Trump said in his speech last night, every country needed to secure our borders was the new president. I would like to thank Vice President Vance, Executive Director Hegseth, and Superintendent Gabbard for their support and travelling to Texas to see firsthand our coordinated border security efforts. Texas will continue to work with the Trump administration to arrest, detain and deport illegal immigrants, and stop the flow of deadly drugs like fentanyl in our country,” he added.
Vance also questioned President Trump's recently imposed tariffs on Mexico designed to pressure the Mexican government to stop the US from flowing fentanyl
“What the president is saying is that there is a need for a sustained commitment from the Mexican government to take border security work seriously,” Vance said.
“We know that fentanyl is one of the biggest causes of death among young Americans, and a significant portion of it is made in China. They came to Mexico, were manufactured in Mexico and crossed the border by Mexican drug cartels. We want fewer Americans to die from these terrible fentanyl overdose. We intend to apply as much leverage as possible to the Mexican government,” he added.
