Veterans from the U.S. targeted with grenades while providing assistance in Gaza

Two American veterans affiliated with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) were injured during an attack while they were distributing aid to Palestinians. Fortunately, they’re reported to be in stable condition and receiving medical attention. The GHF shared that these veterans are “highly decorated.”

The organization has previously expressed concerns about threats from Hamas, emphasizing that American personnel, aid workers, and civilians dependent on aid are increasingly at risk. Unfortunately, today’s events tragically affirm those warnings.

Despite the violence, the GHF remains committed to its mission of assisting Gazans. They highlighted the dangers they face, posting images of remnants of hand grenades used in the attack. They indicated that two assailants targeted a civilian crowd using these weapons, and it’s claimed that some of these grenades originated from Iran, a common source for Hamas.

Rev. Johnny Moore, leading the GHF, remarked that today’s assaults on Americans stem from a troubling media legitimacy surrounding Hamas. He noted that while the U.N. continues to quote Hamas’s claims, they simultaneously spread misinformation about GHF’s operations and the challenges they face.

Israeli U.S. ambassador Mike Huckabee denounced the attacks, asserting that doing good should never be met with violence from Hamas.

In a recent statement, Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani from the IDF said Hamas and other militant groups persist in obstructing humanitarian efforts in Gaza. He underlined the importance of safe evacuations and condemned the violence against Gazan civilians.

The GHF voiced criticism against the international community for not addressing the escalating threats faced by aid workers. They noted that for weeks they had forewarned about potential attacks, but their pleas seemed to have gone ignored by both the media and global bodies.

The attack occurred shortly after reports emerged of Hamas offering financial incentives to harm Americans and aid workers. The GHF confirmed that they are aware of credible reports indicating Hamas’s intent to specifically target their personnel and have reported bounties on both American security officers and Palestinian aid workers.

Ultimately, the GHF aims to support those simply trying to provide food to the people of Gaza amidst ongoing conflict. Since launching their aid efforts in May, they’ve reportedly delivered 60 million meals as of July 4.
