Victor Davis Hanson Explains Why He Thinks Matt Gaetz Could Be Trump’s ‘Sacrificial Lamb’ Pick

Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, said on Tuesday's podcast that former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz could be chosen as a “sacrificial lamb” for President-elect Donald Trump's nomination for attorney general. He said he believed there was a sex.

In a Nov. 13 social media post, President Trump announced Gaetz as one of his Cabinet nominees, saying the congressman would help end “weaponized government.” On “The Victor Davis Hanson Show,” the senior researcher emphasized the view that Trump's selection has a common thread of opposition to traditional government, and that some Trump supporters agree with this choice. While some may do so, he noted that others are beginning to have doubts about Gaetz's background.

“Then other people say, 'Well, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. We have to be effective here.' Matt Gaetz is a prosecutor. This is the best prosecutorial job in this country. He's never been a federal prosecutor. He's never really been a high-level lawyer. He quickly entered politics. I don't think he has the skills or experience to represent and advocate for the MAGA view of what should be done at the Department of Justice. There's no age either. So those are two ways of looking at it,” Hanson said. “I'm not going to judge them, but I think this is going to happen. Jack, I don't know if it's intentional or careless.”

“Matt Gaetz has resigned from Congress. Matt Gaetz was the architect of Kevin McCarthy's dethronement. Did you hear what Kevin McCarthy said?” Hanson asked. “They asked him, 'What do you think about Gates?'” he started laughing. He is very close to Trump. he started laughing. He said, “He will never be confirmed.” Just kidding. 'He must know something. I don't know if he can get out of it. ”

Following Gaetz's nomination, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that Gaetz had submitted his resignation to Congress, “effective immediately.” Hanson went on to say that he believes there are people in the Republican Party who oppose Gates' approach to President Trump, who allegedly supported the appointment of the Florida congressman to encourage Gates to resign from Congress. But Hanson noted that Gaetz would have to answer a series of questions from senators about his history, and even Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz were reluctant to confirm Gaetz. He emphasized that no.

“So they go to them and say, 'Now, listen, members of the Judiciary Committee, don't put us in a position where we have to vote against Trump.' So you kill this, you strangle this appointment on the committee,” Hanson said. “It's going to be very difficult because you don't want to vote with Schumer or anybody. So they're going to do this anyway.”

“Then Trump is going to say, 'Look, guys, he's going to call all the MAGA people and say he's got a super, super, super MAGA appointment to the most important job in this country.' I tried my best, but it didn't work. It was beyond me. Just like I couldn't get Scott to be majority leader, I couldn't control the Senate either. They had their own ideas and I accepted them. So I tried my best to promote Matt, but he was stopped. I’m going to go say, “I’m really mad at you.” But I'm warning you, don't do that to Tulsi Gabbard, RFK, or Pete Hegseth. “I think he was a sacrificial lamb. I really do,” Hanson said.

Since Gaetz's nomination, the former Florida lawmaker has faced massive backlash from Democrats across political lines. Former prosecutor Andrew Wiseman called Gaetz's nomination “a laughing stock on the right.” In addition to the backlash from Democrats, Republicans are also questioning Gaetz's confirmation. Some have privately said they don't know how lawmakers will be approved by a majority. According to Go to NBC News.
