VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: The Cincinnati Avoidance

A large group of black youths recently attacked several white adults in downtown Cincinnati.

The incident reportedly started with an argument between a black male and a white male. However, this quickly escalated into a chaotic scene.

Multiple young black individuals assaulted a middle-aged woman and a man, with some even kicking or body slamming them while they lay on the ground, seemingly unconscious.

There were several troubling elements to this violence. Firstly, it was clearly an assault along racial and age lines. After the initial dispute, groups of black youths targeted solitary older white bystanders.

Secondly, those surrounding the scene not only failed to stop the attack but also recorded it for social media, cheering on the violence as it unfolded.

Thirdly, there was no police presence nor any timely intervention from bystanders.

The assaults ended when at least two of the victims looked nearly comatose, leading the attackers to feel their goal of rendering white individuals unconscious had been largely achieved.

Interestingly, few prominent black leaders who often speak out against interracial violence were present.

In a previous incident involving Jussie Smollett, many leaders quickly condemned systemic racism when they believed he was targeted. Yet, when it became clear that Smollett had fabricated the story, very few retracted their statements.

This kind of demagoguery has historical precedence, seen in cases like the Tawana Brawley hoax or the hoaxes surrounding Duke Lacrosse.

The media and officials seemed to downplay the violence, attributing it to social media, the initial argument, alcohol, and other factors—anything except acknowledging a pattern of racial animosity from the group of black youths.

If white individuals had perpetrated similar violence against black victims and recorded it while cheering, there would likely be widespread outrage.

Additionally, the topic of disproportionate crime rates among different racial groups remains largely undiscussed. In rare cases of interracial violence, black-on-white assaults occur significantly more frequently compared to white-on-black actions.

The silence from progressive media regarding this violence starkly contrasts their typical quick judgments in other recent incidents.

A recent shooting in New York City, involving a shooter of mixed African-American descent, prompted unjust speculation about a possible “white male” suspect, despite clear evidence to the contrary.

While media officials looked for alternative explanations for the violence, they sidestepped the notion that hate might have driven the act.

In a lighter note, actress Sydney Sweeney faced backlash for an advertisement featuring a playful pun on “genes” and “jeans,” which some claimed had racially charged undertones, despite its lack of clear racial implications.

The conversation surrounding eugenics, rooted in left-wing history, often gets overlooked in such disputes.

The current trajectory of society seems to veer towards a landscape marked by double standards and racially charged sentiments.

Behaviors promoting division based on race, often encouraged by some elites, signal that acts of “payback” violence may be tolerated as long as the racial dynamics favor the attacker.
