Former San Luis Teacher Accused of Sex Crimes

A former high school teacher in San Luis, Arizona, is facing allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 17-year-old student.

The individual, identified as 27-year-old Genesis Alvarado, was a digital photography teacher at San Luis High School. She was terminated from her position when the investigation began, according to reports.

Officials at the school took action after students overheard discussions about the case and informed a teacher.

Alvarado had been employed at the school since 2024 and now faces three felony charges, including sexual conduct with a minor.

The Yuma Union High School District stated:

Alvarado is no longer part of YUHSD. The school promptly reported the situation to the San Luis Police Department, and measures to terminate her employment were initiated on August 7. The safety and well-being of all students remain the district’s primary concern, and YUHSD will continue to work alongside law enforcement during the investigation.

Currently, Alvarado is detained in jail, with her bail having been lowered from $200,000 to $100,000 on Tuesday. Authorities believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

One student, Angel Zarate, mentioned that he had told his family last year about the teacher. He described Alvarado as “cool” but noticed peculiar behavior towards young female students.

“He seemed to interact more with the girls, commenting on their TikToks and things like that. I always thought it was a bit odd, but I never imagined he would do something like this,” Zarate reflected.

A report from earlier this year indicated that experts consider sexual misconduct by teachers to be a significant yet often overlooked issue in schools across the country.

Recent incidents also highlight the prevalence of such allegations, with a male teacher in San Antonito, Texas, accused of inappropriate behavior with a 17-year-old girl, and a 45-year-old educator in Belmont, Massachusetts, arrested for child pornography.
