A flash mob of about 70 looters attacked a gas station and convenience store in California, causing about $100,000 in damage. The store owner said it took Oakland police about nine hours to respond to the looting.
Around 4:30 a.m. Friday, a flash mob looted the 76 Gas Station & Mini Market near San Francisco Bay-Oakland International Airport.
Shop owner Sam Murday said two employees were working there at the time and the looting lasted about 40 minutes. The shop was only open through its window at the time the looting occurred, but looters entered the market through the front door.
“Shelves were ripped apart, all the food items were ripped up, trampled or destroyed,” Mulday said. KTVU.

No employees were harmed in the flash mob looting.
The robbers took about $25,000 in cash from the store’s register and ATM, but the store owner said they were unable to steal the safe.
Mardaye and his family took over the business in August 2023.
“This is the hardest thing you can ever go through in your life… especially for someone who has put in the sweat and tears every day. You’ve worked yourself up for the last 10 months and now you’re back to square one,” Mulday said.
“Something has to get done,” Mulday said. “Aucklanders need to have some kind of safety.”
The shop owner added that he knew the area was known for crime but “didn’t know it was this bad.”
76 petrol station is located in the same area of Auckland, In-N-Out fast food restaurant closes Closed in March due to out-of-control crime, the restaurant was the only Oakland location of the Southern California-based burger chain.
The Oakland Police Department told KTVU that officers were responding to a sideshow near the airport with more than 100 vehicles on scene. According to the department, officers responded to the gas station robbery about 90 minutes after receiving a call. However, no suspects were at Gas Station 76. Police had marked the incident as a priority 2, meaning the incident can be reported online. However, after viewing surveillance footage, police elevated the robbery to priority 1.
No arrests were made in connection with the flash mob looting.
City Councilman Treva Reed, who represents the area where the shooting occurred, said she will continue to “advocate and work to secure increased public safety resources and response.” She called on Oakland Mayor Shen Tao to prioritize her district’s demands.
