Video of 8-year-old’s national anthem performance at Pacers game draws millions of social media views

A social media video of a young girl singing the national anthem before tipoff at a recent Indiana Pacers game continues to garner millions of views.

On February 26, Kinsley Murray wore a patriotic dress and white gloves as he stood on center court in the Pacers’ home arena and performed a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The Pacers posted a video of her pregame performance on the team’s website. TikTok account, The video had more than 23 million views and 2.2 million likes as of Friday night.

“The passion, costumes and performance of this national anthem was unparalleled,” the Pacers captioned post. Murray has sung the national anthem at hundreds of sporting events over the years.

She also performed “O Canada” before singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Monday.

A social media user identifying himself as Shafer Murray, a schoolteacher and Kinsley’s father, said she performed at a Washington Huskies basketball game in early 2022.

In 2021, Kinsley made headlines for singing the national anthem before the start of a Gonzaga women’s basketball game.

“I love honoring this country,” Kinsley, then 6, told KREM-TV. “The louder the roar, the better I am.”

Some defended the young performer, while others pushed back against comments seen as negative.

TikTok user Midnight Michaelson wrote, “I watched that video and the hateful, hateful and bullying comments towards that girl are truly awful.” “I want you to come here now and tell me how sorry I am for attacking this girl and how sorry you are.”

The New Orleans Pelicans host the Pacers on Friday night. Indiana enters Friday’s game in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 34 wins and 26 losses.
