Newly released surveillance footage captures a 15-year-old girl escaping after police say a man kidnapped her and stabbed her repeatedly at a Baltimore home.

Abubakarr Barrie, 23, is accused of attacking the girl in a basement property he was renting. The Department of Homeland Security says he picked her up and took her there. Barrie reportedly worked as an unlicensed cab driver.

The attack happened on Oct. 22. Police arrested Barrie two days later, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a detainer against him that day.

Earlier this year, New York City police arrested Barrie on a charge of possessing a forged instrument. ICE also filed a detainer at that time, but city officials released him in July.

DHS says Barrie is from Sierra Leone and entered the United States through Arizona in December 2023. Border Patrol agents arrested him, and he was later released under the Biden administration.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin blamed the case on failures in immigration enforcement and sanctuary policies. He urged Baltimore County authorities to honor ICE’s detainer and prevent Barrie from harming anyone else.

Authorities have not released further details about the girl’s condition. New York City and police officials were asked for comment.
