Video shows California man attempting to kidnap 8-year-old in front of dad, abduction thwarted

Shocking video shows the gruesome moment a California man attempts to kidnap an 8-year-old boy in front of his father. Thankfully, good Samaritans intervened to thwart this heinous kidnapping plot.

Adrian Villanueva was enjoying dinner with his family in Ocean Beach, California on Wednesday night. Suddenly, a man approached Villanueva’s 8-year-old son from behind and appeared to be trying to kidnap him right in front of his worried father. The boy was playing on the sidewalk when a man allegedly tried to kidnap him.

The chilling video shows Villanueva taking action to stop a child predator from kidnapping her young son.

“This is my son, this is my son,” the alleged kidnapper reportedly told Villanueva.

Villanueva said. KMFB-TV“I pushed him. I said, ‘No, he’s not your son,’ and then I tried to kick him out. And that’s when he grabbed my child and started running down the street. Ta.”

Good Samaritans and security guards from a nearby bar helped thwart the kidnapping and took the suspect into custody. The man was detained until police arrived to arrest the suspect.

Villanueva initially expressed sympathy for the suspect and did not intend to press charges.

The suspect was crying and repeatedly saying, “I want to see my family.”

“Because the human side of me told this man that I miss having children,” Villanueva said.

But Villanueva had second thoughts about the possibility of more crimes against children.

“Today it was my child, tomorrow it could be another child. That’s why I’m pressing charges,” Villanueva said.

The San Diego Police Department announced that Christopher Higginbotham, 38, was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and assault.

Villanueva’s son was traumatized by the kidnapping attempt and told his father he never wanted to return to the area where he was almost kidnapped.

The boy said there were “bad people on the streets” and begged his father not to take him into the area again.

But Villanueva is part owner of a deli that opened in the area a week ago.

“He was crying and I felt so bad for him. I felt so bad. When I saw someone take my child away, I felt scared,” Villanueva said.

KMFB-TV reported, citing prison records, that Higginbotham is a wanted fugitive with a “history of felony convictions involving assault with a deadly weapon.”
