A teenage girl fought off an armed man who was trying to kidnap her near her elementary school in Los Angeles, police said.
The horrific incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at around 3:30pm near the elementary school on Figueroa Street.
“I hope police start paying more attention to the community.”
The 15-year-old girl said To KABC TV About the horrific incident, which was also captured on Roxy’s store’s security camera.
The video shows a driver who appears to be tailing the girl from a white or silver SUV. The man then jumps out of the vehicle, grabs the girl and attempts to drag her into the vehicle. Police say the man was armed at the time.
The girl said she hit the man with a mobile phone and was able to shake off his grip and run away. Another video showed the distraught girl in a nearby shop.
The victim’s mother told KABC that her daughter was treated for injuries sustained after the man allegedly grabbed her around the neck, and that the incident also left her emotionally traumatized.
Neither the mother nor the victim wanted their identities made public.
Neighbors said they were alarmed when they heard the news.
“I hope the police will pay more attention to the community,” one shop owner said.
