According to Bloomberg, a video posted by a Chinese Tiktok user suggesting that people should purchase fashion items directly from Chinese factories.
This video also praises the quality of Chinese manufacturing by many apparel brands, such as Nike and Lululemon, where many apparel brands obtain products from Chinese factories. The outlet was reported on Monday.
Instead of buying American consumers in China, they are trying to get apparel and accessories directly from Chinese manufacturing facilities at a much lower price.
One such Tiktok video would say that if the consumer “just contact us and buy from us”, the consumer “doesn’t believe the price we give you”, the outlet reported.
“The campaign looks like a calculation attempt to undermine President Trump’s tariff policy on China by leveraging Tiktok as making Chinese-made manufacturing cheaper, more desirable and accessible.”
According to the outlet, they have seen continuous trade tensions between the US and China, and in some cases, they have seen a massive amount of involvement in Tiktok.
President Donald Trump has hiked tariffs on goods coming from China many times since taking office. The White House raised it to 145% last week.
China then raised US tariffs to 125%.
Trump has also introduced tariffs in other countries in recent weeks.
The White House announced 10% baseline collection in early April in certain countries with “foreign imports and “personalized mutually advanced” tariffs.
Then, on April 9, Trump said he would implement a true social, 90-day suspension and apply 10% collection to countries subject to mutual tariffs that have not retaliated against the United States during that period.
“On the contrary, and based on the fact that over 75 countries are calling US representatives, including the Department of Commerce, Treasury and USTR, they have not proposed that they negotiate solutions for subjects being discussed in relation to trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation and non-monetary tariffs and have not proposed that they be integrated into these countries. The 90-day suspension and a significant drop in the 10% mutual tariffs during this period were also quickly taken effect,” he said at the time.
