Vikings defeat Bengals in Jake Browning's first game after Joe Burrow's injury

Bengals Backup Quarterback’s Challenging Debut

The start of the season hasn’t been what Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browning hoped for. Cincinnati’s chances of a strong 3-0 opening quickly diminished with a hefty 48-10 loss to Browning’s former team, the Vikings.

Having stepped in for the injured Joe Burrow, Browning’s first start saw him throw one touchdown but also two interceptions, leaving the Bengals with a record of 2-1.

In the second half, Browning faced a tough time as the Vikings surged ahead 34-3, effectively sealing the game.

Browning, 29, began his career with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He had reassured Burrow with a 31-27 victory last week after Burrow suffered a grass toe injury.

Burrow, who had surgery on Friday, is expected to be sidelined for about three months. However, Jay Glazer mentioned during “Fox NFL Sunday” that this timeline might not be set in stone.

“Three months seems like a stretch,” Glazer said. “I think he has a better chance of returning sooner, especially if the team aims for the playoffs. But it’s a tricky injury.” It’s this kind of uncertainty that keeps everyone on edge.

Last season, the Bengals fell out of playoff contention with a 9-8 record. Browning’s debut began with high hopes, supported by his fiancée, Stephanie Niles, during the game.

Niles shared a video on Instagram showcasing her game day outfit, which featured a black top and stylish knee-high boots. “It feels strange to be here under these circumstances,” she commented in her post, expressing her support for Browning.

Niles has been a significant presence in Browning’s life, even going viral in January 2024 for her eye-catching game day attire.

As the Bengals prepare for their upcoming game against the Broncos on “Monday Night Football,” the team is adjusting after Burrow’s injury. Meanwhile, the Vikings are celebrating their improved record of 2-1, with backup quarterback Carson Wentz leading the charge.
