Virginia High School track star on the baton by his opponent searches for red as he returns to the starting line to compete for a national title when the attacker is facing attack charges.
Brookville High School junior Karen Tucker secured her spot at the Adidas Track Nationals in Virginia Beach. My father told TMZ.
According to the race lineup for the tournament, the 16-year-old will race in the women's 60-meter and 200-meter dash at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
Tucker also joins her school alumni under the name Brookville TC in the same race that she was attacked.
Sprinter's season has been in the dark since suffering a head injury at the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championship at Liberty University on March 4th.
Tucker, the second leg of the relay race, was fighting IC Norcom High School senior Araira Everett in second place where she was allegedly attacked.
Everett was captured in the video, bringing his right arm backwards, rising forward, and hitting the Tucker with a metal baton.
Tucker detoured the truck, grabbed his head and fell to the ground.
The sick runner quickly pulled herself and her team out of the race, but authorities disqualified Everett and her school.
Tucker's initial prognosis was severe when he was told he was suffering from a concussion and a “possible skull fracture.”
Everett maintains her innocence and says, “I wouldn't be going to hit anyone on purpose.”
She claimed that the baton “stuck” on Tucker's back, rewound it and hit the opponent's head.
According to TMZ, Everett said.
The Lynchburg Commonwealth Law Firm has charged a person who was otherwise 17 years old with one count of assault and battery resulting from the case.
Everett and her family were also subject to a protective order filed against them by the Tucker family.
After she was indicted, a rally was held at a local park to help her teenagers.
Dozens of people attended the event, thanking her supporters.
“No one else wanted to hear me. However, except for those who know me and those who know that I never do anything like that, I would not do any harm. I am not a fighter. I am not even confrontational, I do not do it on purpose. According to Wavy.com.
Everett's speech was filled with loud applause and a chant “We Stand With You.”
Virginia NAACP President Portsmouth said the Everett family was the target of racial slander and other threats since the virus attack.
“The Everett family has experienced racial slander and death threats, and we are clearly aware that those things are unacceptable,” James Boyd told the gathering.
