Virginia man alleged to have offered home to dismiss child sodomy charges

Jared Mayo, accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl, allegedly attempted to persuade the girl’s mother to drop the charges by offering her a house back in January, according to Virginia prosecutors.

A grand jury indicted him on bribery charges in February, adding to the 10 existing charges he faces, including forcible sodomy, based on an indictment acquired by Fox News Digital.

Mayo reportedly reached out via text to Kristin Hoff, the victim’s mother, seeking her assistance in having the charges dismissed.

During a court session, Prosecutor Lawton Tufts shared emails that Mayo supposedly sent to Hoff.

Mayo reportedly mentioned, “If you’re willing to stop all of this, you’re 100% willing to stop all this.” It appears he and Hoff were living together in Virginia, and her plan was to sell the home and divide the profits, as Tufts outlined during Mayo’s pretrial hearing.

In another text, Mayo stated, “You have the power to stop this if you want,” and emphasized that without her cooperation, “this case will not succeed.” Tufts remarked that Mayo essentially implied that dropping the lawsuit could lead to him giving her the house.

Mayo’s initial sodomy charges were filed in December 2023. Further allegations from a grand jury indict him for repeatedly assaulting the girl from June 2022 until June 2023, a period during which she was just 8 to 9 years old, while he was between 27 and 28.

Currently, he remains incarcerated at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bail, with a jury trial scheduled for October. If convicted on the sodomy charge, he could potentially face a life sentence.
