Carrie Emerson, a Virginian woman, recently found out that a horse she rescued comes from a long line of champions and has won world and national shows.
Emerson adopted the unwanted and underfed Cinetico, a 23-year-old horse, in the summer of 2024 to give him a better quality of life, CBS 6 News reported Wednesday.
“This poor guy, he was skin and bones,” Emerson told the outlet.
Cinetico was not the first horse she rescued.
“A lot of times I take in the worst of the worst, the ones that the other rescues won’t take,” she said. “A couple of them actually said, ‘It would just be too much work, we’re not going to do it.’” (RELATED:Video Shows New York Police Assist Rescue Efforts After Horse Falls Into Icy Waters)
Emerson brought the old and malnourished stallion back to health.
“He was very sad. His head down. He just kind of dragged his feet and I said, ‘He will be a good safe horse,” she recalled.
One day, she saddled the horse and brought him to the ring. The horse’s demeanor drastically improved.
“He looked around and then his head came up. Chest came out, back arched and he went into the most gorgeous show stance,” she said. “I got chills. I still get chills thinking about it.”
Emerson quickly had the horse’s DNA tested and found out that he came from an extensive line of Paso Fino horse champions. The horse was listed as missing since his original owner became sick in 2013 and someone sold Cinetico without proper documentation. The horse’s original name was Cinetico De Vitral.
“He has almost 300 show points under himself as a stallion in the Paso Fino show world,” Emerson told the outlet. “He really was show world royalty. He has won world, he has won nationals.”
Several people have approached Emerson in the last few weeks asking if the horse is for sale.
“I’m his last owner,” she proclaimed. She plans to re-introduce the horse to the show ring.
