Residents of Los Angeles believe that the challenges facing the entertainment industry will significantly influence the upcoming 2026 elections, especially as production activities continue to shift away from Hollywood due to lower costs in other states and countries.
Interviews conducted by the California Post revealed that many locals cite high taxes, complicated regulations, and insufficient production incentives as major factors behind the decline of film and television jobs in the area.
A woman mentioned, “My husband is in film, but everything has changed.” She noted, “No one makes movies here anymore because there are no tax credits or benefits.”
Warnings about job losses are prevalent, with some concerned that California is losing talent to more appealing states like Georgia and Louisiana, in addition to countries with lower production expenses and enticing tax breaks.
One Angeleno suggested that local officials need to “sweep out the red tape,” making it more feasible for studios and production entities to function effectively in Los Angeles.
“We have to get people who need jobs working willingly,” they expressed. “Hollywood brings magic. It brings inspiration.”
Some voters also voiced worries about artificial intelligence, influencer culture, and social media creators replacing traditional entertainment roles. One young voter remarked, “I think the big issue right now is that AI could take away a lot of jobs.”
Still, despite these valid concerns, many residents remain hopeful about the future of Hollywood, believing it will continue to be the heart of the entertainment industry. One voter stated confidently, “We can never recreate L.A. You simply can’t imitate Hollywood.”
