Many voters who listed the economy as one of their most important issues heading into the election overwhelmingly supported President-elect Trump at the polls, according to a new survey.
of Voting cast surveyThe report, released Wednesday by The Associated Press/NORC Research Center/PBS/Wall Street Journal/Fox News, included more than 120,000 voters whose finances were “in straits.” The demographic has increased by about 10 percent since the last election, according to polls.
According to the poll, more than half of voters who said they were “very concerned” about rising household expenses such as food and rent voted for Trump. Those who made the economy a top priority also sided with the former president.
But Vice President Harris won support from voters in high-tax brackets, including households with annual incomes of more than $100,000. The poll found that Mr. Trump attracted support from the underclass, those who traditionally don't have college degrees.
More than half of voters in the general election reported not having a college degree. About 60% of voters with annual incomes of less than $100,000 supported the president-elect.
Inflation proved to be a top priority for voters, as people who made rising prices a top election issue voted for Trump.
The survey also found that nearly half of voters approve of the former president's immigration policies. More than 4 in 10 say immigrants in the country illegally should be deported, up 10% from 2020.

The AP VoteCast survey was conducted in both English and Spanish from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5, coinciding with the voting deadline. More than 120,000 voters participated. The margin of error is 0.4 percentage points.
