Democrats love to harp on Donald Trump’s moral fitness, arguing that his criminal proceedings and moral character make him unfit to be president.
CNN correspondent Gary Tuchman recently spoke with voters in Roberts County, Texas, and found that voters agreed with that assertion. But at the end of the day, those same voters admitted they intended to support Mr. Trump over President Joe Biden on Election Day.
Voter Kay Swart called Trump’s moral character “terrible” and “couldn’t be worse.”
“He keeps making weird comments about his first day as dictator and how it affects people who feel wronged by him,” Swart continued.
But to Tuchman’s surprise, neither Trump’s moral character nor the possibility of a criminal conviction will deter Swart or her husband, Ron, from voting for Trump.
“I don’t think he’s qualified, but I’m voting for him,” Kay Swart said.
Additionally, Ron agreed that President Trump “definitely” has poor ethics and morals. But in his view, nothing is better than Biden.
“I think that’s a mistake. [Trump] “As president, he’s still going to be a much better president for the United States than the situation with Joe Biden and the Democratic Party,” Ron Swart said, adding, “I don’t think he’ll survive another four years. I really feel it.” After all, he was in charge of the Democratic Party for years. ”
Another voter, Rick McDowell, rejected the idea that Trump’s criminal trial was a political liability, citing corruption allegations in the Biden family.
”[Trump’s] He’s as qualified as the current president,” McDowell said. “No one is going to investigate Joe Biden because no one is going to investigate Joe Biden.”
Yes, Trump won Roberts County in 2020 with 96% of the vote, and he also won the county in 2016 with 94% of the vote.
But what’s important to this story is that these voters agree It doesn’t change anything for them, which includes key talking points for Democrats — that Trump is morally flawed and that his criminal process is less than stellar.
CNN found that these voters initially supported Mike Pence or Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican primary. But once it became clear that Trump was the candidate, they started supporting him.
This phenomenon is a major undercurrent in the election, as voters are most concerned about the economy and immigration, trusting Trump’s handling of these two issues, and blaming Biden for the worsening situation. Dew.
