Waltz Departure Fuels ‘Chaos’ in Trump’s National Security Team!

Waltz exit adds to 'chaos' in Trump's national security team

The departure of national security adviser Mike Waltz has caused significant upheaval within President Trump’s White House entourage, which is split into American First Separatists and traditional Republican Hawks.

On Thursday afternoon, Trump revealed that the hawkish former House member Waltz will be a nominee for the UN ambassador, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expanded his responsibilities to temporarily include national security advisers.

Maga loyalists both inside and outside the administration have targeted Waltz, questioning his dedication to the president’s agenda, particularly in light of his involvement in the communication scandal that marked Trump’s challenging first 100 days.

This dismissal adds to the tumult experienced by Trump’s national security team. Just a month earlier, several officials from the National Security Council were let go alongside the Director of National Security, while the Pentagon has faced significant disruptions due to leaked investigations and firings among Defense Secretary Pete Hegses’ top staff.

“The abrupt firing of Mike Waltz demonstrates the disorder and ineptitude that plagued President Trump’s White House and national security framework during the inauguration of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (DN.H.), a senior member of both the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Armed Services Committee.

“The sheer volume of exits from high-ranking officials on both the National Security Council and the Pentagon is astonishing.”

The UN position will offer Waltz a platform on the global stage, though it’s a far cry from the Oval Office.

Some Republicans expressed their disappointment at Waltz’s dismissal when the NSA roles were announced.

“He performed admirably as a national security adviser. It’s the president’s prerogative to choose his team, but I’m disheartened by that news,” stated Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

Traditional GOP diplomats who viewed Waltz as a trustworthy figure may find solace in Rubio’s assumption of the role. The two share similarities in advocating for collaboration with allies and confronting adversaries.

“We may never know if an extreme proposal reached Waltz’s desk before it went to the Oval Office.

“While Rubio’s temporary appointment as national security adviser reassures me, President Trump’s choice for Waltz’s permanent successor will speak volumes about the future direction of this administration’s foreign policy,” the expert added.

“Fostering support for American leadership, backing allies, and addressing global threats—if isolationists gain greater sway, he will certainly be disregarded.”

Waltz’s commentary on the communication scandal in March opened a window into the influence wielded by national security advisers, who faced pushback from Hegseth and Vice President Vance. The chat’s existence was disclosed by the Atlantic, with its editor, Jeffrey Goldberg, being inadvertently included by Waltz.

In that chat, Waltz criticized the Houthis in Yemen and aimed to secure a transport lane in the Red Sea, countering claims made by Heges and Vance that the US had pursued European interests.

“So, whether it’s now or in a few weeks, the US must reopen these lanes,” Waltz conveyed in the group’s text.

Rubio was not part of the discussions in that chat.

Democrats have leveraged these shakeups to advocate for the removal of the Secretary of Defense.

However, Waltz’s termination is less about his management of messaging and more about tensions with some of Trump’s staunch Maga supporters. Axios reported that Waltz had conflicts with Trump’s Chief of Staff Susie Wills and maintained a strained relationship with Vance and Trump’s close ally Steve Witkoff.

Rubio, known for his close connections with the President, is seen as an ambitious and dynamic ally amidst the tumult. The former Florida Senator weathered the dismantling of the US International Development Agency, thanks to Elon Musk’s Government Efficiency (DOGE). Some Democrats in Capitol Hill suspect that Rubio played a role in preserving humanitarian assistance amidst budget cuts and freezes on foreign aid.

Rubio also managed to navigate the reorganization of the State Department.

Reportedly, Trump confronted Rubio during a tense meeting involving Musk in the Oval Office, asserting, “Marco is doing a good job.”

On Wednesday, Trump signaled his approval of his rival after warmly acknowledging Rubio during the Cabinet meeting.

“He’s a man well-regarded by the president,” stated State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce in reaction to the announcement. “The President will thoroughly assess who will carry out his agenda. In this instance, he clearly appointed Mr. Waltz to further his secretary and his aims. Not entirely unexpected; it’s good news for Americans.”
