Gov. Tim Waltz returned to the state legislature, divided from the campaign trail. The public's perception of former Vice Presidential Democratic candidates in Minnesota are similarly divided.
Walz finished 2024 and finished with more than $1 million in campaign cash, a year-end campaign finance report shows. The Blue Wall State Governor raised a large portion of these funds before joining Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential ticket.
Walz has not officially announced whether he will seek a third term for the governor, but said he is likely to make a decision this summer. A spokesperson said the Waltz will be focused on leading the split state legislature during that time.
“Regardless of the chaos unfolding in Washington, D.C., Gov. Walz worked with Republicans and Democrats on the Capitol to balance the budget and make Minnesota the perfect state to live, work and raise families. “We will.”

Waltz says he is committed to working in the aisles, but Minnesota's state capitol has been shut down for several weeks. Republicans proposed recalls of their Democratic colleagues for not coming to work.
“They had a majority of organizations to kick off the majority of organizations on January 14th, when we began the legislative meeting,” Republican Sen. Mark Koran said. “The Democrats refused. They held a secret special oath ceremony for their 66 members, and then they now refused to appear and organize it at their Minnesota home.”

The Quran said the waltz had gone missing during the action and told Fox Digital that the governor was not bipartisan.
“He doesn't exist as far as Democrats are concerned that hold this hostage,” the Quran said. “He's not playing a leadership role. The only thing he does in a bipartisan way is that he doesn't work with Republicans or Democrats.
Waltz defended the Minnesota Democrats for boycotting the legislative meeting in an interview with FOX 9 kmspraising national conflicts to the national level by targeting Doge's ongoing federal layoffs.
“We're not going to allow you to do what you see at the federal level. You're not going to fire any state employees. You'll take power into the short-term window of the gap. I'm not going to, that's not what voters voted,” Waltz said.

A Minnesota Republican told Fox Digital that the controversy on the campaign trail had damaged the reputation of his hometown. Waltz's background dominated the headline this summer. When he said he visited Hong Kong during the protests at Tiananmen Square in 1989, and when he said that the story of his family's in vitro fertilizer “mistake,” he explained the military service to the contradictions. ” regarding the claim. Waltz laughed at his failure and called himself “knucklehead.”
“The average Minnesotan really didn't know who Tim Waltz was,” Minnesota Patrol Lt. Colonel John Nagel told Fox Digital. “By running for Vice President, people suddenly realized that this guy wasn't the person many of us thought he was. He was in this happy grandpa's teacher wearing plaid. No. He is an individual who wants to maintain his strength. Better.
“Waltz's ego is hurt,” Nagel added. “He's not happy that he's not roaming around as Vice President.”
Nagel and the Koran agreed that the national report during the presidential election made Minnesotans think twice about the waltz.
“I think Minnesotan should reject his political agenda, as the state did. He was heavily damaged. The Democrats within his own party, perhaps in the next governor's primary election. I'm going to take you. Minnesota has a Senate seat. He wants a national spotlight.
