Minnesota Governor Tim Walz became the subject of social media scorn after he was caught on video struggling to load a shotgun while hunting pheasants.

“Tim Walz claimed to be carrying a 'combat weapon,' but can't he load a shotgun? This guy is so weak. His sister might beat him up. Watch this. I have to keep it,” country singer John Rich said. video.

The comments came after Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate went into the field on the first day of Minnesota's pheasant hunting season, and Walz invited reporters to document the action.

The Harris campaign is leaning heavily into Walz's Midwestern roots to appeal to voters in key Rust Belt battleground states, with the Minnesota governor calling for “common sense” gun control and the status of gun owners. He frequently advertises his career as a hunter.

His hunting technique was called into question after a three-hour hunt that resulted in the Minnesota governor not being shot, according to a CBS News report.

Conservative commentator John Cardillo wrote, “Tim Walz claims to be a lifelong bird hunter, but this clearly proves he has no idea how to load or load a semi-automatic shotgun.'' “I am doing so,” he said. “I shoot a lot of sporting clays with both semi-autos, mostly over-unders. He's new here.”

Conservative commentator Jason Robertson added: “Seeing as Tim Walz tries to handle a shotgun, we formally retract all criticism of him avoiding combat zones.” He alluded to the accusations of “stolen courage” that Walz faced early in his campaign. “He's a hero. He's so bad with weapons that he got out of a war zone and saved American lives.”

“Tim Walz looks like someone who has never loaded a shotgun,” quipped author James Hasen.

The video also draws comparisons to the classic Looney Tunes character Elmer Fudd. Elmer Fudd often had trouble with his shotgun in his pursuit of the fictional Bugs Bunny.
