Warren warns of ‘profoundly serious consequences’ of a Trump victory

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) warned of “very serious consequences” if former President Trump wins the next election.

Warren, An editorial published on Saturday A New York Times reporter criticized Trump for not answering a question about repealing Obamacare during this week's presidential debate.

“He said hesitantly, 'I have the concept of a plan.' Well, it's not a plan,” Warren wrote.

The Massachusetts senator said plans are important because they are a test of ideas and the people who promote them. Plans, she argued, reveal what and who candidates care about.

“In a presidential election, when a candidate of either party is asked about his or her plan for fundamental issues like health care, voters should get a clear answer,” Warren wrote.

Warren said Trump's health care plan “has been clear for years.” She recounted how Republicans tried to repeal Obamacare in 2017 and Trump threw a White House party to celebrate. She said Harris, who was a senator at the time, and other Democratic senators felt anxious when voting and “felt the weight of people's lives at stake.”

Warren argued that voters have decided to embrace the benefits Obamacare has brought, as evidenced by Republican losses in 2018 and 2020. Republicans know this and have “wised up since then,” but Trump has not, Warren said.

“He seems to know his health care plan is deeply unpopular, so he just doesn't talk about it,” she wrote.

Warren said voters naturally want to know their candidates' policy positions and plans — which is why Vice President Harris recently published policy positions on her website after being questioned about her own issues — and added that the same expectation should be placed on Trump.

“As Harris pointed out, Trump is not a serious person and the 'plan concept' is a silly excuse. But as she also pointed out, a Trump presidency would have very serious consequences, including life-and-death consequences for millions of people who would lose access to health care.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
