The Washington Commanders have suspended an executive who called players on the team anti-gay and “too stupid” in a secret O'Keefe Media Group video. ESPN reported..
The sports network, citing a media group video, said that VP of content Rael Entine met O'Keefe's undercover reporter on the dating app Hinge, adding that Entine and the woman met twice at local restaurants. Watch the O'Keefe Media Group video below: here.
“The language used in the video is antithetical to the values of the Commanders organization.”
“Over 50 percent of our players are white, religious people who say God says, 'Fuck gays,'” Entine told an undercover reporter, according to ESPN. “That's their interpretation of it. I don't believe in any of it. The other large percentage are low-income African-Americans who come from communities that are inherently homophobic.”
The sports network added that Entine is heard saying in the video that some players are “super stupid” and that if a smart player gets hit in the head multiple times, he's no longer a smart player. ESPN also said that players who get “hit in the head multiple times” are more likely to believe conspiracy theories.
Entine also said, “The NFL commissioner [Roger Goodell] Hate gays, hate black people. [Dallas Cowboys owner] “I think Jerry Jones, who actually runs the NFL, hates gays and black people,” the sports network reported.
A Commanders spokesperson said in a statement, “The language used in the video is counter to the values of the Commanders organization. We have suspended the employee until the investigation is complete and will not be commenting further at this time,” ESPN reported.
Entine, who has been with the Commanders for four years after playing two years with the New York Jets, called the NFL's social justice efforts “performative,” the sports network reported.
“We're not doing this out of any good intentions. We're doing this because George Floyd changed the game. We're doing this to make as much money as possible. The NFL, like any business, is driven by profits above all else,” Entine said, according to ESPN.
Entine added that because the NFL makes a lot of money, “it can pretend it's prioritizing DEI for good PR purposes,” according to the sports network.
Additionally, Entine told an undercover reporter that “most of his fans are high school dropouts and alcoholics,” and also called them “mouth breathers,” ESPN reported.
Entine also compared his efforts three years ago to promoting a theory that pipes at the Commanders' stadium were only leaking water to “national media,” the sports network reported.
