Wayne Rooney Criticizes Tom Brady’s Comments on Work Ethic
Former British football star Wayne Rooney expressed his disappointment over NFL great Tom Brady’s remarks in a new docuseries featuring Birmingham City FC. The show, titled “Builting In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues,” highlights the club’s journey during the 2024 season, with Brady as a minority owner since 2023.
In a clip shared widely on social media, Brady appeared to question Rooney’s work ethic following a day of training. Rooney had a brief stint as the club’s manager in 2023, which ended just months later in early 2024.
“I’m a little worried about the head coach’s work ethic,” Brady commented, noting his uncertainty about Rooney’s dedication.
Rooney responded on a recent episode of his BBC show, “Wayne Rooney Show,” stating, “I think it was a very unfair comment. When I joined Birmingham, there was a lot of confusion. Tom only came once, right before a lighter game. Maybe he didn’t fully grasp football at that point.”
While addressing Brady’s comments, Rooney acknowledged the quarterback’s impressive record of seven Super Bowl titles, reflecting on Brady’s understanding of hard work. “But let’s not forget—football is not the same as the NFL. NFL players work a limited part of the year; they need time to rest, too,” he explained.
Rooney expressed great respect for Brady, calling him one of the greatest athletes ever, while also feeling let down by the comments made. He pointed out that Birmingham City is on the right track and is recovering from relegation.
During his short time as manager, Rooney recorded only two wins in 15 matches, as the team ultimately faced relegation. Currently, Birmingham City is working hard to avoid further drops within their league structure.
