We Have to Let Israel Finish the Job and End Hamas

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the United States should allow Israel to complete its mission to end Hamas.

“I think there are two major problems with the Biden administration’s actions. First, this is a fundamentally inconsistent policy, while too many Palestinian civilians have been killed,” Vance said. On the other hand, it is depriving Israel of precision-guided weapons that actually reduce civilian casualties. So if you are concerned about Palestinian casualties, you can say so here. That policy doesn’t actually make much sense.”

He added: “The fundamental problem here is that the Israelis have a goal in mind. Hamas started the war by killing large numbers of Israeli civilians. And now they have 80 % lost, so I raise my hand and say “Uncle”. Now, Palestinian civilian casualties are a real problem, and our hearts certainly go out to them. We must ask ourselves why there are so many Palestinian civilian casualties. That’s because Hamas started the war and is now hiding behind Palestinian civilians. So if you want to learn a lesson, remember the past 40 years. Most importantly, Hamas must be defeated as a viable military organization. We can never defeat Hamas ideology, but we can eradicate their commanders, the last military-trained battalions. I think we should give the Israelis the power to do that. ”

Vance added: “Our goal in the Middle East should be to enable Israelis to have good relations with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab states.” It cannot be done until the Israelis finish their work with Hamas. If this is not possible, the attitude of Middle Eastern countries will be, “These guys can’t be trusted.” They are not pursuing their own national security. So we have to let them finish this job, but hopefully on the other side, we’ll usher in two new eras for the Middle East. ”
