Wesley Hunt Advocates for July to Be Declared ‘American Pride Month’

Push for “American Pride Month”

Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) expressed that the United States is “tired” of its identity being influenced by what he describes as a loud, narrow minority agenda. He believes this sentiment goes beyond President Trump.

On Tuesday, Hunt is set to introduce a resolution aimed at establishing July as “American Pride Month.” This would serve as a national celebration of the country’s heritage. His initiative, first proposed in Congress in 2023, seeks to honor the establishment and enduring legacy of the United States.

The resolution emphasizes American exceptionalism and pays tribute to “brave patriots” from the modern revolutionary war. Hunt echoes elements of President Ronald Reagan’s farewell speech to underscore the significant accomplishments of the United States.

The measure also addresses concerns about the diminishing American values in today’s cultural context. Hunt warns that if the nation is to remain the world’s last hope, future generations must grasp its history and accomplishments.

In a statement to the media, Hunt framed the resolution as a needed response to the cultural landscape, voicing his concerns about imbalances in the national narrative.

“America is tired. We’re fatigued by cultural tribalism, virtue signaling, and seeing our national identity hijacked by a narrow agenda,” he remarked.

Highlighting the cultural prominence of June’s Pride Month, Hunt suggested it’s time to reclaim July—an important month in America’s founding—for a broader celebration.

“If corporations and activists can promote ideologies under ‘Pride Month’ in June, then why can’t we reestablish July as a time to honor something much grander?” he stated.

Hunt noted that this initiative began in 2022 and has since transformed into a grassroots effort rooted in patriotism and civic pride.

The resolution acknowledges historical figures from George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to Rosa Parks and the Buffalo Soldiers, as well as recognizing U.S. veterans, civil rights leaders, and pioneers in space exploration.

“This initiative was sparked by a desire to celebrate the extraordinary individuals and timeless values that have defined our republic—from the patriots of 1776 to present-day leaders who protect our freedoms,” Hunt explained.

Lawmakers are also encouraging President Trump to formalize this month through an official presidential declaration.

“The president of our history understands the importance of patriotism, and few embody this more than President Trump,” Hunt asserted.

As he appeals to Americans, he encourages them to embrace the entire month as a time of national pride, extending beyond just Independence Day.

“Let’s reignite our patriotism from coast to coast. We don’t only celebrate our freedom on July 4th. We celebrate our founding, our flag, and our future every day during this sacred month,” he concluded.

This resolution signals a growing trend among conservatives to reaffirm traditional American values in public discourse.

As part of this renewed effort, Hunt is releasing patriotic videos on social media each day, with the first one planned for launch at the start of the month.

Current surveys from Gallup indicate that while Republican pride remains strong, there has been a noticeable decline in pride among Democrats and younger generations.

In a recent appearance on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Hunt reiterated the need for unity and the importance of teaching children what it means to be American, as well as celebrating the common heritage that binds the nation together.
