John Bolton’s Home Raided by Federal Agents
In a recent operation, federal agents seized three computers, two iPhones, and various documents from the residence of former national security adviser John Bolton. This occurred during a raid on August 22, raising potential legal issues for the 76-year-old that could lead to prison time exceeding ten years.
The raid targeted Bolton’s homes in Bethesda, Maryland, and his Washington, D.C. offices. Authorities are investigating claims that he mishandled national security information by utilizing private servers to send emails to family during his time in President Trump’s administration, as noted by a senior FBI official.
Along with the electronics, agents also took two USB drives, a hard drive, and four boxes filled with documents labeled “printed daily activities,” as well as materials marked “Trump I-IV” and a binder titled “Allican Strike Statement and Reflection.”
The search warrant indicated that Bolton might have breached two sections of the 1917 espionage law.
If he faces trial and is convicted on all counts, Bolton could be looking at a prison sentence of up to 25 years. However, he has not yet been arrested or charged with any crime.
During the Biden administration, the investigation was put on hold. Investigators only resumed their inquiries after becoming aware of the case about a month into Biden’s term in February, according to officials.
Now, Trump’s Justice Department is questioning whether the decision by the Biden FBI to refrain from pursuing legal action against a prominent critic of Trump’s foreign policy was influenced by political considerations.
An FBI source commented on the situation, suggesting that the Biden administration might be aware that Bolton possessed materials detrimental to U.S. national security but did nothing to retrieve them. Additional claims were made that the Biden administration is “weaponizing law enforcement” by halting politically sensitive investigations.
Following the raid, Bolton returned home and has continued to maintain a vocal presence on X, criticizing the president’s actions on the global stage. He recently posted, “The White House has moved back decades of US-India relations, bringing Modi closer to Russia and China. Beijing is positioning itself as an alternative to the US and Donald Trump.”
