What The Hell Is Going On? America Deserves Drone Answers Now

It’s been nearly a month since large, mysterious drones were spotted in New Jersey, yet Americans are no closer to answers about what exactly the aircraft are and what exactly they are doing in our airspace.

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed there is no national security or public safety threat posed by the “SUV-sized” drones, many of which, they say, are “manned aircraft, operating lawfully.” White House National Security Adviser John Kirby also claimed most of the aircraft spotted were lawfully operating but said the sightings “highlighted a gap in authority.” And on Sunday, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas assured Americans that the agency is currently investigating the drones alongside state and local authorities. He also said the federal government needs “additional authorities” — not exactly a phrase conservatives want to hear — to “address the drone situation.”

“We are working in close coordination with state and local authorities, and it is critical, as we all have said for a number of years, that we need from Congress, additional authorities to address the drone situation,” Mayorkas said on ABC News. “Our authorities currently are limited, and they are set to expire. We need them extended and expanded.”

Meanwhile, President-Elect Donald Trump is channeling what many Americans are probably thinking and said the drones should be shot down and that the government might know more than it’s letting on.

“Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country,” Trump wrote Friday on Truth Social. “Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!”

But the statements from federal officials and White House personnel don’t seem to be quelling the fear and rampant speculation. If anything, their statements and public appearances are doing the very opposite: threatening to ignite mass hysteria.

Even Democratic Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal admitted federal agencies in all likelihood do not have as much information about the drones as they should. (RELATED: Dem Rep Urges Biden Admin To Be More ‘Forthcoming’ On Drones, Warns How CCP May Be Accessing Backdoor Data)

“My feeling is – and it’s a hunch more than knowledge because we have yet to receive the briefing that I’ve demanded – the federal government knows a lot less than it should,” Blumenthal told CNN’s Kate Bolduan on Monday.

Blumenthal is right. The government probably knows little to nothing, or else they know much, much more and are refusing to be transparent with the public.

From the first week the drones were spotted, Americans should have gotten answers. Trust in government is at historic lows, and this was a perfect opportunity for federal agencies like the DHS to claw back credibility by acting swiftly and transparently so that citizens in New Jersey — and all across the country, for that matter — could sleep more soundly.

Sadly, and to no one’s surprise, they are failing.
