Whataburger employee defends against suspected attacker using a trash can in viral fight

The phrase “don’t mess with Texas” gained a new twist recently when an employee at a burger restaurant defended himself against an alleged attacker using, of all things, a basket of fries and a trash can.

This unusual brawl went viral after a customer captured the incident on video at a Whataburger in Paris, Texas. Witness Billy Jones shared that while he was dining, a man dressed in black entered the restaurant and attacked the staff.

Jones recounted how a quick-thinking employee swung a wire fry basket, hitting the assailant and knocking him down. Following that, the manager jumped in, repeatedly using a trash can to strike the suspect while another employee recorded the scene.

In the video, shouts can be heard, including someone calling for the panic button. Meanwhile, 911 was contacted, and the suspect ultimately fled. The police later identified the individual, Anthony William Newhouse, 41, from Spring, Texas, who was arrested at the scene.

According to a press release from the Paris police, Newhouse was found injured near a parking lot behind the restaurant. Upon being arrested, he faced charges for assault causing bodily injury and public intoxication.

Interestingly, while in custody, it appears Newhouse decided to pour water in his cell, which led to an additional charge of criminal mischief.

A spokesperson from Whataburger stated that the safety of guests and employees is their main concern. They are taking the incident seriously and are fully cooperating with local authorities.
