Incident Involving Wheelchair User on Florida Bus

A 65-year-old man from Florida, who relies on a wheelchair, is facing accusations of stabbing a woman on a bus as she held a child. This shocking event was reported by local news, citing police sources.

According to the Lauderhill Police Department, Willie Lester Benjamin was arrested shortly after the incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Monday at the 2900 block of 56th Avenue.

The bus driver informed authorities that Benjamin and the woman had previously engaged in a dispute over seating arrangements on the bus. It seems this argument revolved around the designated space for wheelchairs.

Reports indicate that Benjamin attempted to place his wheelchair in the space the woman occupied. When she refused to move, he allegedly ran over her feet, escalating the disagreement as the bus approached his stop.

As Benjamin made his way toward the bus exit, he reportedly produced a black pocketknife with about a four-inch blade and lunged at the seated woman. Police state that he struck her with the knife, resulting in a superficial injury to her left forearm. Fortunately, the woman declined medical help from local fire rescue services, reporting only minor injuries.

Investigators spoke with the bus driver, who corroborated the details of the incident. The driver confirmed that there had been prior arguments between Benjamin and the woman regarding their seating on the bus. Additionally, Benjamin’s wife, who was also present, supported the claim of previous negative encounters.

The woman expressed her intention to pursue charges against Benjamin. He was subsequently taken into custody and is now in the Broward County Main Jail, facing a charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm. As of the latest updates, his bond has not been established.
