White House Fires Back at Jimmy Kimmel After He Calls on Trump to Resign
The White House criticized Jimmy Kimmel on Friday after the late-night host urged President Donald Trump to resign. A spokesperson said Kimmel’s criticism of Trump had left him with a “rotted” brain.
“Jimmy Kimmel’s case of Trump Derangement Syndrome is so advanced that it has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain,” spokesperson Davis Ingle said. He added that Kimmel was more entertaining when people laughed at him, and claimed the comedian’s ratings were his real talent.
Kimmel had devoted several monologues to Trump after the midterm elections. On Tuesday, he celebrated what he called a Democratic “blue wave.” The following night, he dismissed Trump’s suggestion that Republicans would have done better if he had been on the ballot.
“That is such crap,” Kimmel said, arguing that Trump had been present throughout the campaign and had divided the country. He joked that the election was the first time people had come together: to get rid of the president.
Kimmel also mocked Trump over an image that appeared to show him asleep during a White House meeting, calling him “Nappy Gilmore.” He then urged Trump to quit, suggesting he use his cryptocurrency fortune to buy an island. Kimmel added, “Maybe Epstein’s island?”
Later in the show, Kimmel responded to an earlier White House statement that had called him a “no-talent loser” and said he had embarrassed himself with falling ratings. The statement also claimed that people watched him only to laugh at him.
“Which is kind of the point of the show,” Kimmel said, before jokingly calling Ingle “Danny Dingle.” He added that it seemed like a poor day for the spokesperson to call him a loser.
Media commentator Christian Toto said Kimmel had shifted from comedy toward political activism, and suggested his approach could put pressure on his relationship with ABC. The network, Toto said, wants significant budget cuts to keep the show running. He thought the two sides would probably reach a compromise, but questioned how long the arrangement could last.
