Whoopi Goldberg Questions Support for Black Presidential Candidates
On Thursday, Whoopi Goldberg, a co-host on “The View,” expressed concern that Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s presidential campaign isn’t being taken seriously, stating, “We can’t elect black people in America.” She shared her frustrations about hearing that the nation isn’t ready for a black man in the Oval Office, even after the two-term presidency of Barack Obama.
Goldberg remarked, “I’m questioning the Republicans and now I’m questioning the Democrats. You have someone like Wes Moore, the perfect candidate… And people say you can’t choose black people. Why not?”
Other co-hosts quickly countered her argument. Sunny Hostin pointed out, “We’ve done it twice!” referencing Obama’s victories in national elections. Goldberg attempted to elaborate on her views but was often interrupted by her fellow hosts, who were optimistic about the possibility of Moore’s presidency.
Later in the show, Goldberg emphasized the need for change, but it was clear her sentiments sparked a lively debate among the co-hosts. Hostin insisted on the importance of voting to create change, saying, “If we want to make a difference, you have to go out and vote. There’s no way around that, right?”
Prior to this segment, Goldberg explained her political stance, stating she doesn’t align strictly with either party. “There’s no name for what I am,” she laughed, suggesting she pulls ideas from both sides. She even humorously proposed the idea of having a Democrat as president and a Republican as vice president.
