Why Gen Z is rejecting leftist untruths and embracing faith in Jesus

Revival at University of Tennessee

Picture this: 8,000 college students filling an arena—not for a basketball game, but to witness baptisms. As friends cheered, 500 individuals expressed their faith in Christ that night.

This gathering took place at the University of Tennessee, a significant state institution. Interestingly, this wasn’t just a one-off event. The United States Resurrected movement began at Auburn University two years ago and has expanded to more than 20 college campuses nationwide.

Here’s the thing: For years, secular progressives have positioned themselves as the counterculture, opposing traditional Christian values. However, it seems they might have overstepped. Now, young people are increasingly turning to Jesus Christ as an act of rebellion against these dominant narratives.

Since the event involving Charlie Kirk on September 10th, church attendance has reportedly increased by 15%. Campus ministry figures are showing even higher numbers. Bible sales are projected to exceed 10 million copies by 2025, already outpacing last year’s figures by over a million.

Cultural Overreach

The secular left not only sought tolerance for their beliefs but also full acceptance. Over the past 60 years, they’ve taken control over universities, media, entertainment, and government, using these platforms to push ideological agendas.

Young men were told their masculinity was toxic, while young women heard that marriage and motherhood were traps. Gender ideology permeated schools, with dissenting parents branded “domestic terrorists.” During the pandemic, churches were shut down, even while abortion clinics remained operational. They promised liberation but delivered loneliness and despair, then labeled Christianity as oppressive.

Building a worldview on shaky ground often leads to an awakening realization.

The Bible asserts that God has inscribed His law on every person’s heart (Romans 2:15). This truth can be suppressed but never erased. When an entire generation is fed misleading narratives disguised as progress, the thirst for authentic truth inevitably grows.

Why Young People Are Leading the Charge

Research from Pew shows that each successive generation has been less Christian than the last. However, this trend has now paused—a breakdown of statistics indicates that those born in the 2000s identify as Christians just like those born in the 1990s, marking a halt in the decline.

What’s particularly striking is the active engagement of Gen Z men, who attend religious services more frequently than Millennials or younger Gen Xers. The gap in religious participation between genders is narrowing, with young men returning to faith even as some young women drift away.

Societal messages have often disparaged Biblical masculinity. Men have been labeled as toxic for desiring strength, protection, and leadership. The belief that hard work and emotional restraint lead to aggression towards women have fed this narrative. The church, however, doesn’t teach young people they are inherently evil, but instead invites them to follow Christ’s example and embrace servant leadership.

The Bible portrays masculinity as rooted in strength tempered with sacrifice. When young people are told their inherent masculinity is problematic, the Biblical vision becomes quite compelling.

Charlie Kirk often urged young men to “get married, have children, build a legacy, and seek true joy.” He understood the foundational importance of fearing God over fearing man for civilization.

Although his assassination aimed to quell calls for faith and family, it had an opposite effect. As a pastor observed, Kirk initiated a political movement that ultimately transformed into a Christian one.

His memorial service drew 100,000 attendees and millions more online, serving as a testament to the message of the gospel. Young people are now seeking the purpose, meaning, and hope that Kirk found in Jesus Christ.

Anticipating Backlash

In light of this uplifting news, it’s crucial for Christians to recognize the anticipated pushback from cultural elites.

Campus persecution is likely to rise. Educational institutions that have long celebrated various sexual identities might soon express concerns over what they’ll label as “cult-like behavior” in response to increased baptisms. Administrators who remained silent during social unrest will now aim to restrict Christian gatherings. Media channels that once highlighted “mostly peaceful protests” will likely sound alarms about “religious fervor.”

This cultural shift signifies a spiritual battle, and the stakes are high. When young people turn to Christ, they experience real transformation, leading them toward marriage and family based on Biblical truths. The renewal of civilization begins with strong families.

A True Renaissance or a Temporary Cultural Moment?

It’s essential not to oversimplify the fervor surrounding this revival. Genuine revival encompasses more than just attending church; it requires awareness of sin, true repentance, a deep longing for God, and hearts transformed by the gospel.

Only time will reveal whether this current wave of faith will endure. Jesus warned that many are initially enthusiastic but may lose interest when challenges arise (Matthew 13:1-23). Prayer is needed for these young believers to remain anchored in Scripture and resilient.

However, we should also remain vigilant about God’s movements. The sight of thousands congregating across campuses to worship is not typical in today’s America. As Paul states, “What is the point? But in every way Christ is preached, whether from false motives or from the truth, in which I rejoice” (Philippians 1:18).

Furthermore, this revival isn’t just about individual faith but about the future of Western civilization. Strong families nurture stable societies. Should this revival take root, it could reverse trends related to familial disintegration, societal decline, and population decrease.

The secular left is aware of this reality. Their agenda has hinged on dismantling family structures, confusing gender roles, and dismissing Biblical authority. Every young person who chooses faith, marries, and raises godly children defies their vision. Each young man embracing Biblical manliness threatens their authority, while young women choosing motherhood over career directly contradict their narrative.

What the Gospel offers transcends what secular humanism can provide: forgiveness through Christ, transformation via the Holy Spirit, belonging in God’s family, and an eternal sense of purpose.

Most crucially, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Not just a self-improvement strategy or a political stance, but a Savior who sacrificed for humanity and triumphed over death.

What Needs to Happen Next

Moments of God’s mercy appear distinctly from time to time. This is one of those moments, and Christians must actively engage and fan the flames of revival.

How can we do this?

  1. Proclaim the full gospel message. Not the watered-down version that portrays Jesus merely as a life coach, but the Biblical truth that we are sinners deserving of God’s judgment, that Christ died in our stead, triumphed over death, and that everyone who repents and believes will be saved.
  2. Live out our faith authentically. Young people are watching closely. If we desire this generation to take Christianity seriously, we must show them Christians living out their faith in love, raising their children in truth, and standing firm for what they believe, even at a cost.
  3. Disciple intentionally. It’s not enough for young people to just make a profession of faith during revival events. They need Scripture, guidance, and Biblical wisdom applied across their lives. This is a vital mission. Make disciples, not just converts (Matthew 28:19-20).

Lastly, if you’re a student reading this, your campus could be the next to experience genuine revival. How can you contribute? Start regular prayer meetings. Invite a skeptical friend to join you at church. Stand firm when faced with mockery from professors. Defend Biblical truths.

You’ve been prepared for this moment—now step into it.

The Victory is Already Secured

The gates of hell will not prevail against Christ’s church (Matthew 16:18). We aren’t fighting for victory; we fight from a position of victory.

The secular left’s efforts were always destined to falter because they’re built on untruths. Ultimately, lies cannot triumph over the truth. The same God who facilitated the Great Awakening, who inspired Luther’s reforms, who transformed Saul into Paul, is at work today.

The essential question isn’t whether God will triumph—this is already determined—but whether we will have the courage to stand with Him while He does so.

If God decides to use the fervor of secular progressives and the yearning of a desperate generation to redirect society toward Him, that’s exactly how divine intervention occurs. God can utilize human anger for His glory (Psalm 76:10). He can transform malevolent plans into something good (Genesis 50:20).

Let secular forces tighten their grip on a fractured system. Each excess, every attempt to suppress the Gospel, only amplifies Christianity’s cultural appeal.

They’ve framed rebellion against God as the standard position. Now, young people are choosing to rebel back towards God.

The era of comfortable and socially accepted Christianity has come to an end. What is emerging is something more radical: a generation ready to consider the costs and choose Christ regardless. They understand that following Jesus might cost them jobs, friendships, and social standing, but they believe Jesus is worth the sacrifice.

This is how reform takes shape. It’s how revival spreads. It’s how civilization can be rebuilt from the remnants of failed ideologies.

Again, the question isn’t whether God will win—that’s already a given. The pertinent question is whether we have the resolve to align with Him during this pivotal time.

A revolution has already commenced; the significant question now is, which side of history will you choose to stand on?
