Actress Cynthia Erivo to star in upcoming live-action film adaptation evilis slamming fans who recreated the movie's poster by changing the position of the witch's hat and making it darker to cover the upper part of her face.
Erivo criticized fans for the poster, calling it “the wildest, most offensive” and “deeply hurtful.”
The original graphics are evil Returning to the stage show, which premiered on Broadway in 2003, the witch appears with a green face, red lipstick, and a pointy witch's hat pulled down over the bridge of her nose to hide her eyes. Next to her, the White Witch in profile whispers into the Green Witch's ear. The White Witch's face is also mostly hidden in the original poster.
But a new poster for Universal's Jon M. Chu film shows Erivo looking directly into the camera with his full face on display.
However, fans reworked the new poster to be more in line with the previous graphic branding. evil From the beginning, I replaced Erivo's hat over his eyes and applied red lipstick instead of the green lipstick seen in the new poster. The fan poster also featured the White Witch's hand moving upwards to hide her face, similar to the original poster for the stage show.
But Elvio was furious at fans' efforts to make the new poster resemble the original brand.
“The original poster is an illustration. I am a real person, and I chose to look directly at you, the viewer, from beneath the camera barrel…because we communicate with our eyes, without words. ,” Erivo raved on his Instagram Story. “Our posters are homages, not imitations. Editing my face or hiding my eyes erases me, and that's really hurtful.”
“This is the wildest, most disgusting thing I've ever seen, and it's on par with the awful AI we're fighting, and it's on par with people posting questions like, 'Is your vagina green?' ” None of this is funny. None of them are cute. It degrades me. It degrades us,” the British actress added.
Elvio also posted an image from the upcoming movie, adding, “I'm putting this here to remind you and to clear your palette.”
evil The film also stars Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Kyra Settle and Peter Dinklage.
Despite Eviro's outrage, many feel her criticisms are ridiculous.
“This is not an easement, it's a homage to the original Broadway Wicked poster. This perpetual victim mentality needs to stop,” wrote one X user.
X user Andy Signore thought Eviro was “intolerably stupid” for attacking the fan-made poster.
Robert Brendan felt Ebiro's reaction was “ridiculous”.
