William Shatner Hospitalized After Health Scare
William Shatner, the beloved 94-year-old Hollywood icon, was taken to the hospital on Wednesday after a medical emergency at his Los Angeles home.
Reports indicate that Shatner faced issues with his blood sugar, prompting him to call for emergency medical services when he recognized something was off.
An ambulance from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at his residence as a precaution. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and was reported to be “good” and “comfortable” during his stay.
Shatner’s representatives were contacted for further comments regarding his condition.
Throughout his career, the actor, famously known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, has been candid about his health struggles. In March 2024, he disclosed that he had been diagnosed and treated for stage 4 melanoma after a concerning lump was discovered underneath his right ear.
After some initial hesitation, Shatner received a second opinion confirming the diagnosis. He reflected on the moment, recalling the surprise and concern expressed by those around him. Following that, he was able to undergo surgery to have the mass removed.
Shatner believes that a rigorous immunotherapy treatment played a crucial role in his recovery, leading him to overcome cancer.
In addition to this, he has dealt with chronic tinnitus, a condition resulting from exposure to a special effects explosion during the filming of the “Star Trek” episode “Arena” in 1967. Tinnitus can manifest as ringing or other sounds in the ears.
Despite his health concerns and advancing age, Shatner continues to lead an active life. Notably, at 90 years old, he journeyed to space with Blue Origin’s NS-18 mission in 2021, describing the experience as profoundly impactful, connecting him with the essence of life on Earth.
This month, Shatner announced plans to visit the Galapagos Islands for the “Space 2 Sea” tournament, scheduled for November.
