Willie Robertson shares his late father Phil Robertson's last message

Willie Robertson, known from “Duck Dynasty,” recently shared the final words his father, Phil Robertson, conveyed to their family before he passed away.

Phil, who founded the Duck Commander Hunting Company—central to the A&E series—died at 79 after battling several health issues, including Alzheimer’s.

Willie, at 53, noted, “Phil had been fighting Alzheimer’s for a while. It weighed heavily on our hearts; it’s part of life.” He added that his father’s strong faith was evident in his last messages. “He often said, ‘Don’t cry at my funeral. I know where I’m going.'”

“What a life he lived,” Willie emphasized. “We’ve received countless messages from people he inspired. We’re reflecting that faith through what we do. Our show isn’t about preaching or converting but reflects our family’s beliefs, which help us endure tough and joyful times alike.”

Phil was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in December, passing away just as their new show, “The Duck Dynasty: The Resurrection,” premiered. He couldn’t participate in the show due to his health, but the first episode paid tribute to him.

The tribute featured footage of Willie introducing the show, leading to a moment where Phil gave a thumbs up to his son when asked about the program. Willie’s joyous reaction to the gesture highlighted the emotional depth of the tribute.

Corey, Willie’s wife, expressed that Phil’s passing felt surreal. “That little clip meant a lot to our family. When we filmed, he was already struggling with Alzheimer’s, so he couldn’t join us.” She said the thumbs up was significant, reflecting Phil passing the torch. “People are talking about a new generation, but we’re honoring Phil’s legacy. Faith was always his priority.”

Corey explained that Phil’s motto—faith, family, and ducks—remains central to their lives. “Our show aims to show families living together, honoring Phil’s legacy while still operating the duck call business that started it all—something he founded in 1972.”

While “Duck Dynasty” aired until 2012, Phil’s contributions and the family’s journey have continued to resonate. In a recent interview, Willie and Korie talked candidly about processing Phil’s loss and the overwhelming support they’ve received.

Willie reflected on the mixed emotions of grief and joy. “We miss him dearly, but we’re grateful for his faith and the life he lived. Many people have shared how he positively impacted their lives, whether on the show or through his writing.”

Witnessing Phil’s fight against Alzheimer’s was tragic for Willie, but it also prepared the family for his passing. “We knew he was ready to move on, so it’s a blend of feelings—more joy than sorrow, really.”

Corey expressed hope that Phil’s dedication to faith would inspire future generations. “He lived a simple life but made a profound impact. His faith shaped our way of living together and strengthened us as a family.”

Willie added that the foundation for “Duck Dynasty” wouldn’t have existed without Phil’s transformative experiences. “His journey allowed us to have a show, a family—none of this would have happened otherwise.”

Phil’s wife, Kay, spoke about their early marital struggles, faced squarely due to Phil’s alcoholism and infidelity, which he overcame through faith. Married since 1966, they raised four sons, including Willie, and now have multiple grandchildren. “Phil’s commitment to faith truly held our family together and allowed us to see the fruits of that faith,” Willie concluded.
