Willy Medina from Rhode Island taken into custody for beach stabbing amidst large gathering of teens

Teen Charged in Stabbing Incident at Rhode Island Beach

An 18-year-old from Rhode Island, Willie Medina, found himself facing new charges on Friday for allegedly stabbing three individuals while hundreds of teenagers gathered at the beach.

Medina was linked to a fatal stabbing incident that happened at Narragansett Town Beach shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Video evidence suggests he attacked beachgoers during a chaotic scene, according to local police.

The three victims were hospitalized but fortunately sustained only minor injuries.

Authorities apprehended Medina in his hometown of Pawtucket, charging him with a felony assault after being tracked down by the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force.

During an arraignment on Friday at 4th District Court, he faced additional charges related to violating his bail conditions and was ordered to have no contact with minors, as reported by local news.

So far, police have not disclosed the motive behind the stabbing, which remains under investigation.

Interestingly, Medina was out on bail for a shooting incident in Pawtucket that occurred in April, where he was involved in a disturbance that led to gunshots being fired into a vehicle.

At that time, he was charged with several offenses, including possession of a firearm without a license and disorderly conduct.

In the wake of Tuesday’s incident, authorities also arrested two men at the beach parking lot on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

Earlier that day, around 1,200 teenagers surged into Second Beach in Middletown, approximately 32 miles away, prompting police action. Several were arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructing law enforcement.

One 18-year-old, Ronan Pinkham, was accused of hitting a Newport police officer with his vehicle while trying to evade arrest. He later admitted to being under the influence at the time and was charged with felony assault and DUI.

It seems that incidents of large gatherings by teens have become more frequent, creating problems at popular venues in various states as Memorial Day weekend approaches. Recently, a group of teens took over a boardwalk in Long Branch, New Jersey, leading to multiple arrests.

In another case, four students from Delaware State University were arrested for allegedly orchestrating a drunken takeover at Rehoboth Beach, which brought a significant police response to the area.

The students—Xander Nicol, Angeline Crouville, Eric Barnett, and Keyon Scott—face severe charges related to the incident.
