A judge in Wisconsin is facing charges related to immigration issues, as federal authorities took action on Tuesday.
Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested last month after being accused of obstructing justice and concealing Eduardo Flores Lewis during a pretrial hearing. This incident occurred at the end of a court session.
The arrest sparked protests among Democrats, with the Justice Department standing by its decision to act against the judge.
The charges were formally presented following a one-day hearing, as reported by local sources.
Following her arrest, Dugan was temporarily suspended from her position.
Her attorney, Craig Mustantouno, has stated that Judge Dugan feels regret over the situation and maintains that her arrest wasn’t justified for public safety.
Flores Lewis, who is 30 years old, had appeared before Judge Dugan on April 18 facing three misdemeanor charges related to a physical altercation that happened in March, prior to the attempt to evade arrest.
This story is still developing, so stay tuned for updates.
