WJC President Urges $1B Effort to Combat Anti-Israel Misinformation

World Jewish Congress Calls for Major PR Initiative Against Anti-Israel Sentiment

Ronald S. Lauder, the President of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), has proposed a significant global media campaign worth $1 billion to counteract the rising tide of anti-Israel narratives, anti-Semitism, and assaults on democratic ideals, urging support from the Israeli government and Jewish communities worldwide.

During a recent lecture at a conference in New York, Lauder expressed his concern that despite Israel’s military achievements, it was “losing the information war.” He pointed out that misinformation and biased reporting, often amplified on social media, were contributing to growing animosity toward Israel and Jewish communities globally.

Lauder envisions this initiative functioning from a specially designed facility with a $1 billion annual budget, operating continuously and engaging both Israel and the Jewish Diaspora in its efforts. He questioned how the only Jewish state had, seemingly, become the most despised nation on earth, attributing this sentiment to relentless falsehoods and hostile narratives.

The billionaire philanthropist highlighted various misleading stories related to the Israel-Hamas conflict, noting a particularly egregious instance where Israel was falsely accused of causing an explosion at a Gaza hospital, a claim later attributed to a failed terrorist rocket launch. He also cited a recent sensational column that accused Israel of training dogs to assault Palestinian prisoners.

According to Lauder, Israel excels in military capacity but fails in public relations, losing ground in today’s media-driven political landscape. “Everyone has a computer in their pocket,” he noted, emphasizing how swiftly harmful rumors can circulate globally.

He warned that Israel could no longer overlook what he termed a coordinated propaganda assault against it. “Public relations cannot be ignored,” Lauder insisted. “It’s essential for any nation’s survival,” yet he feels Israel has been oblivious to this reality.

Lauder advocated for the establishment of a public relations operation led by seasoned media professionals rather than politicians. “When lies attack Israel, we need to respond fiercely,” he stated. “We have to fight back every hour of every day.”

Moreover, he stressed the importance of Jewish communities worldwide partnering with Israel in this public relations battle, asserting, “It’s not just about defending the Jewish state; we have a voice, and that voice must be heard.”

Lauder has previously commended President Donald Trump for cutting federal funding to colleges perceived to tolerate anti-Semitism and has called for the removal of anti-Israel educators from American campuses.

In light of recent attacks on a synagogue and a Jewish kindergarten in suburban Detroit, Lauder expressed concerns, characterizing these incidents not as mere “coincidences” but as acts of terrorism targeting Western and Judeo-Christian values. He warned that, without prompt action from leaders, democracy and societal structures could face severe threats.
