Highly motivated U.S. Olympic sprinter Sha’Carey Richardson failed to win the gold medal Saturday despite being the favorite to win the race.
Richardson was expected to win gold in the 100m final, but a slow start meant he had to settle for silver. New York PostRichardson is last She was the quickest on the pace out of the entire field, taking 0.221 seconds to get off the starting line.
Although once he finally got going he was able to pass six other competitors, Richardson was unable to overtake Julian Alfred of St. Lucia, who won the gold medal in the race.
Alfred’s 0.15 second advantage over Richardson was reportedly the biggest margin of victory since 2008.
Richardson was considered a favorite to win gold in the 100 meters after his recent World Games victory, and his supporters were especially excited to see him compete in Paris after he was disqualified in 2021 after a drugs test showed marijuana in his system.
After serving her suspension, she was not selected for the U.S. team for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 due to COVID-19 postponements.
Richardson continued to denounce the Olympic rules over the next two years, with she and many of her supporters calling the suspension “racist.”
But last year she comfortably won the 100m to take gold at the world championships, setting the stage for what many expect to be a spectacular comeback at this year’s Paris Olympics.
Mr Richardson has a history of controversy, including being removed from a flight in January after refusing to turn off his mobile phone and getting into an argument with a flight attendant, during which he was heckled by fellow passengers.
