Woman claims she went blind, almost died after drinking bug-infested airport coffee: report

An airline employee has filed a complaint with police, claiming he went blind and nearly died after drinking coffee from a vending machine in Mallorca that was full of bugs and made him sick to his stomach.

The unidentified 21-year-old woman recently purchased the drink at Palma de Mallorca Airport, near the city of Palma. According to the Daily Mailquoting local news reports.

However, while enjoying her cup of joe, she noticed that the taste was a little different. And when she looked closely, she noticed “tiny antennae and wings” sticking out of the liquid and clinging to the sides of the cup.

She took a disgusting photo of a cup full of bugs.

And about 10 minutes later, she told a Spanish news site: Ultima Horashe became ill—and the world went dark.

She soon went into anaphylactic shock and her face and throat became so swollen that she was unable to breathe.

She also reportedly lost her eyesight during the ordeal.

Airport health services administered epinephrine and other drugs to her, the Mail reported.

But she lost consciousness and was rushed to a local clinic, where she spent 36 hours in intensive care starting Monday.

“When we arrived at the ICU, they told my boyfriend, ‘Be thankful the body hasn’t arrived,'” she said. “I had a really bad time seeing myself alone with a bunch of tubes.”

The media said doctors released her on Wednesday.

She then called Deli Corner, the coffee company that supplied the machine.

“They told me to bring my cell phone and they’d give me 50 cents back,” she said. “I did it in good faith that it wouldn’t happen to anyone else. I said I didn’t want the money, I just wanted them to do something.”

Her family filed a police complaint against the airport, claiming the presence of the insects in poorly maintained machinery was a crime against public health, the paper said.
