Florida Woman Escapes Kidnapping Ordeal
A woman from Florida managed to flee a horrifying three-week kidnapping, during which her ex-boyfriend held her captive and drove her across the country. She ultimately saved herself by jumping off a balcony in California, as reported by authorities on Thursday.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced the arrest of 41-year-old Floyd Stack. He faces several charges, including kidnapping, aggravated stalking, and placing a tracking device on the victim’s car without her consent. This situation reportedly began in southwest Florida.
The incident came to light when the victim reached out to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office upon realizing that Stack was trying to install a tracking device on her vehicle. The responding deputies quickly uncovered what Marceno described as a dreadful and extended nightmare.
“This suspect is a calculating lunatic and a very dangerous person,” Marceno stated during a news conference, adding that detectives and deputies had been working tirelessly to put an end to the terror faced by innocent women.
According to investigators, Stack persuaded the woman to join him on a supposed three-day trip to visit family in New York, starting on April 20. However, things took a dark turn when Stack became erratic and threatened harm to her family if she refused to do what he wanted.
Marceno remarked that what was intended to be a brief trip quickly spiraled into a three-week ordeal filled with terror and violence. Allegedly, Stack confiscated her phone and wallet, driving through various states like Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Nevada, while threatening her life should she attempt to escape.
There were also claims that Stack physically assaulted her during their travels. “Imagine being kidnapped and sitting next to a violent psychopath, wondering if he’s going to kill you every mile you go from home,” Marceno noted.
When they arrived in San Diego, the situation escalated further. Stack reportedly bound the victim with zip ties and duct tape while holding a knife to her throat and threatening her life. After three days in captivity, she managed to escape while he was distracted.
She jumped from a balcony to a neighboring house and called the police, subsequently being taken to a hospital for treatment.
Stack managed to flee, taunting her with phone calls from various numbers, even suggesting he had escaped to South America. The victim returned to Lee County in mid-May, and the case resurfaced when her home security system recorded Stack attempting to put a tracking device on her car.
Upon reporting this, law enforcement quickly mobilized. Marceno mentioned that officers spotted Stack in Bonita Springs on Tuesday night, where he fled from deputies, leading to a pursuit involving another vehicle before he abandoned it and got away in a rideshare.
Eventually, he was traced to Collier County, where law enforcement apprehended him after another foot chase.
Marceno described Stack as one of the most dangerous suspects his team had dealt with. “This sadistic, twisted excuse of a human being is one of the worst,” the sheriff said, emphasizing the seriousness of Stack’s criminal history, including past convictions for armed robbery and fraud.
Currently, the investigation is still ongoing, and authorities expect more charges may emerge across various states.
“The world will be a better place if he leaves the city,” Marceno concluded.
