Florida Woman and Puppy Recover from Crocodile Attack
A woman from Florida, along with her puppy, is on the mend after a harrowing encounter with a crocodile.
This incident took place in Pasco County earlier this month. Danny Wright shared with a local news outlet that she was out walking her small Dachshund when the attack occurred. Interestingly, she mentioned that her family had resided in that area for about 20 years and had never previously encountered a crocodile.
“It’s unusual for me to see one here,” she remarked. “He was on a string, and then I just heard a cry and suddenly felt a pull.”
Wright explained that they were only a few feet away from the stream—where algae and debris were masking the water—creating a perfect hiding spot for lurking crocodiles.
“I saw him go toward the stream, and it hit me: ‘Wait, that’s a crocodile,'” she recalled.
Wright suspects the crocodile had grabbed the dog’s collar. “It seemed like he had him by the throat,” she noted. “If it had been any closer, it might have caused a serious injury.” She reflected on how close they had come to a tragic outcome.
During the scuffle, Wright managed to use her free arm to wrestle her four-month-old puppy away from the crocodile’s grip, tossing him to safety on the bank.
“At that moment, my left arm was still engaged with the crocodile,” she said clearly shaken. “I had to use my left arm to flip him off and gave him a few punches, maybe with my elbows too.” It was a desperate fight, stemming from a fierce need to protect her pet.
After managing to get her puppy to safety, Wright called for help. This resulted in the deployment of traps that captured the crocodile responsible for the attack.
“I was still on the call when I found myself in a pretty precarious situation,” she recounted, still astonished by the turn of events. The experience undoubtedly served as a stark reminder of just how wild nature can be, even in familiar surroundings.
