An elderly Florida man fell victim to a trap planned by a 34-year-old woman who set up her ex-girlfriend to rob him, police said.
Chelsea Wright, 34, and Andrew Marks, 33, were arrested by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. The two were charged with robbery with a weapon and aggravated assault of a victim over 65 years of age.
Just before 5 a.m. on February 22nd, a 73-year-old Florida man showed up at a local hospital. He suffered numerous injuries to his head, torso and arms, there was a large laceration to his head that required staples, and his eyes were swollen shut and required medical treatment.
An elderly man told detectives that a man had hit him with a metal object in the Plantation Pines area. He said an unidentified man stole his wallet.
During the investigation, police learned that the older man had met Wright, 34, at a bar in Daytona Beach. She reportedly invited the 73-year-old man to her home for a romantic date.
The suspects followed Wright to her home in separate vehicles, police said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday. press release“At one point during the drive, Ms. Wright stopped to pick up someone from the side of the road. She continued driving, chasing the victim, before stopping and letting the passenger drop off near her home. , the victim got out of the car,” and approached Wright’s car. ”
That’s when police suspect Marks ambushed an elderly Florida man and hit the 73-year-old with a metal object. The victim claimed that his assailants repeatedly punched him while he fell to the ground and hid in the fetal position. Like Wright, the assailant allegedly stole the man’s wallet and fled the scene.
The old man was left bleeding on the ground.
Police reportedly initiated surveillance on Wright and then pulled over a 34-year-old woman for a traffic violation. Her officers allegedly found drugs in her car and took her into custody on suspicion of drug charges and a probation violation.
During questioning, Wright claimed that his boyfriend had been attacked by an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s disease and that he had picked her up on the side of the road.
Law enforcement later discovered text messages between Wright and his ex-girlfriend in which they planned to rob an elderly man, authorities said.
Marks was arrested on Friday.
Both suspects remain in custody.
