Woman teacher at a Christian school charged with grooming a teenage softball player — mother stepped in, but communication persisted, police report.

A teacher from a Christian school in Georgia has been accused of grooming a teenage girl she coached in a travel softball team. Reports indicate that the teacher continued to communicate privately with the teen even after the girl’s mother intervened.

Katie Elizabeth McDevitt, 28, was arrested on October 15 and is facing a felony charge for grooming a minor, as reported by WXIA-TV. She was released from jail the next day after posting a $7,500 bond.

‘The accused had private communication channels with the victim even after intervention from the mother of the victim.’

McDevitt works at Loganville Christian Academy, although a search of the school’s staff directory did not list her name. Police suggested that while coaching the 15-year-old on the Georgia Strike Softball team, she engaged in inappropriate behavior.

Loganville Christian Academy confirmed that the alleged victim is not a student at their school.

An arrest warrant revealed that the inappropriate conduct is said to have taken place between February 1 and September 22, 2026. A deputy from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office noted that McDevitt coached the girl’s travel softball team while also teaching at the academy.

Investigators allege that McDevitt sent private messages to the girl that suggested a romantic relationship. The warrant further states that she orchestrated situations where they could be alone before and after practice in a location outside of camera view, according to WXIA.

In a forensic interview, the teenage girl relayed some physical interactions with McDevitt that made her feel uncomfortable.

McDevitt’s attorney, David Boyle, stated that his client “categorically denies these allegations and looks forward to defending herself in court.” He described the arrest warrant as vague and criticized it for not identifying the victim or detailing any sexual offenses. Boyle expressed confidence that the allegations are baseless and that they plan to contest them vigorously.

The academy indicated that they became aware of the allegations and the ongoing investigation around September 24, roughly three weeks before McDevitt’s arrest.

Loganville Christian Academy responded by placing McDevitt on administrative leave and asserted, “Based on the information available to us at this time, we do not have any knowledge of allegations involving students enrolled at Loganville Christian Academy.”

Georgia Strike Softball issued a statement, noting that the Walton County Sheriff’s Office had informed them about the accusations and that McDevitt was removed from the team on September 25.

At no time after Strike was made aware of the investigation has Ms. McDevitt participated in any Strike activities or events. Strike has continued to cooperate with the sheriff’s office since that time, including honoring their request not to release any of the limited information with which we were provided prior to Ms. McDevitt’s recent arrest on 10/15/2026. Our focus remains on the safety and well-being of our players and their families at this time.
