The family of a student featured in a troubling high school wrestling video has initiated legal action against the school district, aiming to change its policies. The video, which gained significant attention, shows the student in apparent distress during a match, leading her to seek help from her mother.
In her account, she claimed she was sexually assaulted by an opponent during a match, unaware that this individual identified as transgender. This took place during a game in December 2025 at Rogers High School in Puyallup, Washington, as stated in the lawsuit.
Prosecutors in Pierce County decided not to file charges against the students involved, citing insufficient evidence to support a criminal case. Additionally, the principal and athletic director of the school are facing accusations for their failure to report the incident to law enforcement for two months.
The school maintains that the actions taken by the officials were based on the information available at the time, and an investigation was promptly initiated once they became aware of the allegations.
The mother expressed frustration, claiming that the school ignored the allegations even after she was shown footage of the incident. She believes their only response occurred after the situation attracted national media attention.
“Authorities neglected to act on this until it was all over the news,” she asserted. “Even now, they seem to downplay the seriousness of the matter. They aren’t willing to address the assaults or take necessary steps to ensure that girls’ sports are preserved for girls, nor have they been transparent with parents about their daughters’ safety.”
The family is being represented by Alliance Defending Freedom. On a recent Tuesday, their attorney sought a court order to prevent the school from permitting female students to compete against biological males.
Hal Frampton, an attorney with ADF, emphasized, “Parents have the right to know if their child might be placed in a perilous situation, such as grappling with a male athlete. They deserve to be informed and have the option to protect their children.”
While some media reports referred to the alleged assault in terms like “molestation,” the complaint specifies that the victim experienced digital penetration. Legal representatives for the school district acknowledged that the matter is still under investigation but dispute claims that any Title IX protections were breached.
