Tokyo Theme Park Employee Dies in Incident

A routine maintenance worker at a theme park in Tokyo was reported dead after becoming trapped in the mechanism of the attraction for a long period. The incident took place on Tuesday during the operation of the “Flying Balloon” ride at Tokyo Dome City Attractions.

The company stated that while conducting maintenance, the employee got caught in the gondola mechanism. Despite rescue efforts that led to an emergency hospital visit, the individual was pronounced dead there shortly after arrival.

In an interview with local media, police identified the worker as 24-year-old Hina Uemura. It reportedly took about five hours for the staff to free her from the machine.

The “Flying Balloon” ride accommodates 12 passengers, who are seated in a circle and ascend to about 30 feet high. During a scheduled inspection by the operator, the seats were raised to allow Uemura and several colleagues to check the vehicle’s mechanisms. Unfortunately, it seems that while she was working on a stepladder, the seat fell and became wedged in the central support.

The company expressed its condolences, stating, “We sincerely pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased employees and extend our deepest condolences and apologies to the bereaved families.” They also apologized to the visitors for the distress caused by the incident.

Currently, the company is collaborating with various authorities, including police and fire departments, to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. All rides at the amusement park have been temporarily halted as they strive to understand what happened and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
