Workers at a technical college in California shot on campus in reported incident of workplace violence

On Friday, two women were tragically shot and killed on the campus of Southern California Technical College, which appears to stem from workplace violence. Authorities arrested a suspect who is thought to be a former employee.

The incident occurred around 4 PM at Spartan Airlines Technology Campus in Inglewood, a location that borders Los Angeles. Mayor James Butts noted the significant police presence following the incident.

Video footage from aviation television showed a heavy police response outside the campus, underscoring the severity of the situation.

It was reported that, unfortunately, one of the victims was in critical danger. The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed via social media that both women were transported to a hospital.

Butts added that the alleged shooter had left the scene initially but was later apprehended. Police officers detained a male suspect whose vehicle matched the description related to the shooting, a detail furnished by the Inglewood Police Department.

Responses from local police were slow; inquiries for more information didn’t yield immediate answers.

The surrounding area remained cordoned off for at least an hour as the situation was addressed.

Campus president Chris Becker expressed shock to KABC-TV, emphasizing that the school regularly focuses on safety as part of its commitment to being a secure aviation training institution. “It’s typically a peaceful campus,” he remarked, highlighting the supportive community of students and staff.

Spartan University of Aviation Technology, with campuses across the nation, caters to about 500 students at this Inglewood site, located roughly a mile from Los Angeles International Airport, offering training in aviation maintenance.
